Cracking

The work »Cracking« was created in collaboration with and for Kunstverein Gastgarten. The site-specific sculpture takes a crack in the asphalt in the inner courtyard of the building as its starting point and moves it to the façade. In public space, it relates to the adjacent Nordkanalstraße and the advertising signs that mark the street.
Aesthetically the sculpture acts against these signs, yet it replicates their referential logic. However, instead of refering to brands or products, the work allows us to target an in-between space that oscillates between figures of “breaking up” and figures of “collapsing”. The illuminated crack thus marks a point of view that reverses spatial and aesthetic orders and enables a reflexive transfer to possible ways of change in its surroundings.
